Short answer
RTX, the company that owns Raytheon, had approximately 180,000 employees at December 31, 2025, according to its Form 10-K filed February 6, 2026, including about 54,000 engineering professionals; 69% work in the US. RTX doesn't report a separate count for Raytheon, one of its three segments with Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney. Raytheon Company's last 10-K, before the 2020 merger, reported about 70,000 employees at December 31, 2019.
- RTX had about 180,000 employees at December 31, 2025, down from about 186,000 a year earlier.
- RTX doesn't publish a headcount for its Raytheon segment; the last Raytheon-only figure is about 70,000 (December 2019).
- About 71,000 Raytheon Company employees joined RTX in the April 2020 merger.
- 69% of RTX employees work in the US, about 124,000 people (our calculation).
- The Raytheon segment had $28.0 billion of 2025 sales, about 31% of RTX's segment total.

This page is for sellers sizing Raytheon as an account, defense analysts, job seekers and anyone who needs a citable figure. It uses two sets of filings: RTX Corporation's 10-Ks since 2020 (RTX was called Raytheon Technologies until 2023) and Raytheon Company's own 10-Ks up to 2019, when it was a separate listed company.

| 2019 | December 31, 2019 | about 70,000 | 10-K filed February 12, 2020 |

RTX's 2020 10-K says that "as a result of the Raytheon Merger, 71,000 Raytheon Company employees joined the 124,000 employees of UTC's aerospace businesses." That's the last time a filing counted Raytheon people separately.
Why there's no Raytheon-only count
RTX reports one company-wide headcount in its 10-K and splits it by function (engineering), representation and country, not by segment. Since July 1, 2023, RTX has run three segments: Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon. The 10-K describes Raytheon as "a leading provider of defensive and offensive threat detection, tracking and mitigation capabilities for U.S. and foreign government and commercial customers," covering air and missile defense, missiles, sensors and radars, space-based systems and hypersonics.
Raytheon's 2025 net sales were $28,043 million, about 31% of RTX's $91,155 million segment total (our calculation). Don't apply that share to headcount: the segments differ in how much they make in-house, how much they subcontract and how labor-intensive their work is. If you need a Raytheon figure, cite RTX's 180,000 and say it covers all three businesses.
What the RTX number includes
The 2025 10-K says: "As of December 31, 2025, our global employee population consisted of a total of approximately 180,000 employees, including approximately 54,000 engineering professionals and approximately 32,000 employees represented by labor unions and other employee representative bodies. Our employees were located in 52 countries, with 69% of our employees located in the U.S."
- All of RTX: Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon and corporate functions.
- About 124,000 in the US (our calculation: 69% of 180,000).
- No contractor figure. The 10-K counts employees only.
What changed and why
- April 3, 2020: the merger. United Technologies completed the separation of Carrier and Otis, which took about 122,000 former UTC employees with them, and merged with Raytheon Company. The combined company had about 181,000 employees at the end of 2020, after pandemic actions the 10-K lists, including "freezing non-essential hiring" and "making personnel reductions."
- 2021: down to about 174,000. The 10-K says RTX had "experienced and may continue to experience personnel reductions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on our business."
- 2022 to 2024: back up to about 186,000, while RTX sold the Raytheon segment's Cybersecurity, Intelligence and Services business (completed March 29, 2024).
- 2025: down 6,000 to about 180,000. RTX completed the sale of Collins' actuation and flight control business on July 21, 2025 and of its Simmonds Precision Products business on October 6, 2025. The filing doesn't say how many employees moved with those businesses.
Revenue per employee
| Year | RTX net sales | Employees | Net sales per employee (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $88.6 billion | about 180,000 | about $492,000 |
| 2024 | $80.7 billion | about 186,000 | about $434,000 |
| 2023 | $68.9 billion | about 185,000 | about $373,000 |
| 2022 | $67.1 billion | about 182,000 | about $369,000 |
| 2021 | $64.4 billion | about 174,000 | about $370,000 |
For 2025: $88,603 million divided by about 180,000 is about $492,000 (our calculation). The 2023 figure is depressed by a reduction in Pratt & Whitney sales tied to a powder metal issue, noted in the 10-K. For comparison, Raytheon Company's last full year as a standalone company, 2019, gives $29,176 million of net sales over about 70,000 employees, or about $417,000 per employee.
Selling to Raytheon and RTX
General guidance, not a description of RTX's internal process.
- The end customer shapes the purchase. Raytheon's customers are mainly the US and allied governments, so vendors touching its programs face flow-down contract terms, cybersecurity requirements and, for technical data, US export controls.
- Programs hold the budgets. Engineering and program leaders for a specific system (a missile, a radar, a space sensor) decide what they need; supply chain and contracts teams run the process.
- Two routes in: selling into a program as a supplier, which means qualification and long cycles, or selling to RTX's own operations (facilities, IT, HR, training), which works like any large enterprise.
- With about 54,000 engineers, engineering tools, test and simulation, and technical recruiting are large spend lines.

Questions people ask
Is Raytheon the same company as RTX?
Raytheon is now a business segment of RTX Corporation. United Technologies merged with Raytheon Company on April 3, 2020, after spinning off Carrier and Otis, and the combined company was called Raytheon Technologies until it was renamed RTX in 2023. Since July 1, 2023, RTX has had three segments: Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon.
How many employees does Raytheon have in the US?
RTX doesn't give a US figure for Raytheon alone. For RTX as a whole, its 2025 10-K says 69% of its approximately 180,000 employees were located in the US at December 31, 2025, or about 124,000 people by our calculation. The share has been between 68% and 72% since 2020.
How many engineers does RTX have?
About 54,000 engineering professionals at December 31, 2025, according to RTX's 2025 10-K, out of approximately 180,000 employees. That's down from about 57,000 at the end of 2023 and 2024. The filing doesn't split engineers by segment, so there's no official count for Raytheon's engineers.
How many employees did Raytheon have before the merger?
About 70,000 at December 31, 2019, according to Raytheon Company's last annual report on Form 10-K. RTX's 2020 10-K says 71,000 Raytheon Company employees joined the 124,000 employees of UTC's aerospace businesses when the merger closed on April 3, 2020. Raytheon Company had about 61,000 employees at the end of 2015.
Is RTX cutting jobs?
RTX's headcount fell from about 186,000 at the end of 2024 to about 180,000 at the end of 2025, according to its 10-Ks. In 2025 it completed the sales of Collins' actuation and flight control business and its Simmonds Precision Products business. The 10-K doesn't say how many employees moved with those businesses or how much of the decline came from other reductions.
