Short answer
Ford had about 169,000 employees worldwide on December 31, 2025, according to its Form 10-K for 2025, filed with the SEC on February 11, 2026. About 87,000 worked in the United States, 76,000 in the rest of the world and 6,000 at Ford Credit. Approximately 56,300 US hourly employees were represented by the UAW. Ford's headcount has fallen from about 199,000 at the end of 2018. Ford reports headcount once a year, so this is its latest figure.

- Headcount has fallen 30,000 (15%) since 2018, through exits from manufacturing in Brazil and India and cuts in Europe.
- Revenue per employee was about $1.11 million in 2025 (our calculation).

Ford employees by year
Ford reports its headcount once a year, as of December 31, in Item 1 of its 10-K ("With about 169,000 employees worldwide...") and in an Employment Data table under Human Capital Resources.
| Year end | Employees | Change on prior year | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| December 31, 2025 | about 169,000 | -2,000 (-1.2%) | 2025 10-K, filed February 11, 2026 |
| December 31, 2024 | about 171,000 | -6,000 (-3.4%) | 2024 10-K, filed February 6, 2025 |
| December 31, 2023 | about 177,000 | +4,000 (+2.3%) | 2023 10-K, filed February 7, 2024 |
| December 31, 2022 | about 173,000 | -10,000 (-5.5%) | 2022 10-K, filed February 3, 2023 |
| December 31, 2021 | about 183,000 | -3,000 (-1.6%) | 2021 10-K, filed February 4, 2022 |
| December 31, 2020 | about 186,000 | -4,000 (-2.1%) | 2020 10-K, filed February 5, 2021 |
| December 31, 2019 | about 190,000 | -9,000 (-4.5%) | 2019 10-K, filed February 5, 2020 |
| December 31, 2018 | about 199,000 | 2018 10-K, filed February 21, 2019 |
Ford rounds to the nearest thousand. The changes are our arithmetic. Ford's 10-Qs and earnings releases don't report headcount, so the 2025 10-K holds the latest company figure until the 2026 10-K, due in early February 2027.
Where Ford's employees work
The Employment Data table splits the workforce between the US, the rest of the world and Ford Credit, in thousands.
| Year end | United States | Rest of world | Ford Credit | Total | UAW-represented US hourly employees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 87,000 | 76,000 | 6,000 | 169,000 | approximately 56,300 |
| 2024 | 87,000 | 78,000 | 6,000 | 171,000 | approximately 56,500 |
| 2023 | 87,000 | 85,000 | 5,000 | 177,000 | approximately 59,000 |
| 2022 | 84,000 | 84,000 | 5,000 | 173,000 |
Each row is from that year's 10-K, except 2022, which is from the 2023 10-K. The 2024 10-K restated 2023 slightly (rest of world 84,000, Ford Credit 6,000, total 177,000 unchanged).
US headcount has held at about 87,000 for three years, while the rest of the world fell from 84,000 (the restated 2023 figure) to 76,000. The US is now 51% of the total. About 65% of US employees are UAW-represented hourly workers, by our arithmetic (56,300 of 87,000, both approximate).
What the number includes
- Everyone Ford employs, worldwide. The total covers the automotive business and Ford Credit, Ford's finance arm, which the table counts separately (about 6,000).
- Salaried and hourly staff. The 10-K doesn't give a salaried and hourly split for the whole company, but it does count UAW-represented US hourly employees. Its risk factors say "the vast majority of the hourly employees in our manufacturing operations in the United States and Canada" are represented by unions.
- Rounded and point-in-time. Every figure is approximate and taken at December 31.
What changed and why
2019 to 2021: leaving Brazil and India
Ford's filings describe a "global redesign" with charges in several regions. In January 2021 "Ford Brazil decided to cease manufacturing at its three in-country plants," according to the fourth-quarter 2020 results Ford filed on February 4, 2021, with $2.5 billion of South America redesign charges in 2020. On September 9, 2021 Ford filed an 8-K saying Ford India planned to "cease vehicle manufacturing in Sanand by fourth quarter 2021 and Chennai by second quarter 2022," with about $2.0 billion of charges. Neither filing gives the number of employees affected. Headcount fell 16,000 between the end of 2018 and the end of 2021, and another 10,000 in 2022.
2023 and 2024: Europe
On February 14, 2023 Ford filed plans for "the elimination of 3,800 jobs over the next three years" in Europe: about 2,300 in Germany, 1,300 in the UK and 200 elsewhere, mostly in product development, to be pursued through voluntary separation programs. Rest-of-world headcount fell from 84,000 at the end of 2023 (as restated in the 2024 10-K) to 78,000 a year later.
2025: a smaller fall
Headcount fell another 2,000 in 2025, all outside the US.
Revenue per employee
Ford's 2025 revenues were $187,267 million. Divided by the year-end headcount, that's $187,267 million ÷ 169,000 = about $1.11 million per employee (our calculation).
| Year | Revenues | Employees | Revenue per employee (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $187.3 billion | 169,000 | about $1.11 million |
| 2024 | $185.0 billion | 171,000 | about $1.08 million |
| 2023 | $176.2 billion | 177,000 | about $995,000 |
| 2022 | $158.1 billion | 173,000 | about $914,000 |
| 2021 | $136.3 billion | 183,000 | about $745,000 |
Revenue rose 37% from 2021 to 2025 while headcount fell 8%. Ford doesn't report headcount for its Ford Blue, Ford Model e and Ford Pro segments, so there is no per-segment ratio. Compare it with other carmakers on our list of the largest auto companies, keeping in mind that some report full-time equivalents.
Selling to a company this size
General guidance on how manufacturers of 170,000 people buy, not a description of Ford's internal processes.
- Find the segment and the plant. Ford reports Ford Blue, Ford Model e and Ford Pro as separate segments, plus Ford Credit. Production problems are owned at plant level; platform and software problems sit with central engineering.
- Mind the union contract. With most US hourly staff UAW-represented, anything that changes how plant work is done touches labor relations. Bring that into the plan early.
- Expect supplier qualification. Carmakers vet suppliers on quality, delivery and cost before a first order, and production parts take longest.
- Land with one site or team. Win at one plant or function and use the result to reach the next: the land and expand motion.
- Name the people. Work out who signs, who uses and who can block. Our guide to finding decision makers shows how.
In an account this large, finding the team that owns your problem is most of the work. Bebop researches each account and suggests who to talk to and the angle to open with; check what it finds against the company's filings.
How to check Ford's headcount yourself
- Search SEC EDGAR for Ford Motor Co (CIK 37996) and open the latest 10-K, filed each February.
- Item 1 opens with the worldwide total. Under Human Capital Resources, the Employment Data table gives the US, rest of world and Ford Credit split for two years.
- The same section gives the number of US hourly employees represented by the UAW.
- Check 8-Ks filed since then for announced plant closures or job reductions.
