Short answer
Uber had approximately 34,000 employees globally on December 31, 2025, according to its Form 10-K for 2025, filed with the SEC on February 13, 2026. About 20,300 of them were located outside the United States. The count excludes drivers and couriers, whom Uber treats as independent contractors. Headcount is up 2,900 (9.3%) on 2024, the second year of growth after a fall in 2023. Uber reports headcount only in its 10-K, so this is its latest figure.
- Latest figure: about 34,000 employees on December 31, 2025, from Uber's 2025 10-K.
- About 20,300 (60%) work outside the US, leaving about 13,700 in the US (our arithmetic).
- Drivers and couriers aren't employees: Uber says it believes they are independent contractors.
- In May 2020 Uber announced cuts of about 6,700 full-time roles; headcount fell to 22,800 that year.
- Revenue per employee was about $1.53 million in 2025 (our calculation), about 2.6 times 2021's.

This page is for sellers, analysts and anyone who needs an Uber headcount they can cite: the latest number, what it counts and how it has moved. Sites that estimate headcount from online profiles often mix in drivers, or miss parts of the company. Every number here comes from Uber's annual report on Form 10-K or other documents it filed with the SEC.
Uber employees by year
Uber reports its headcount once a year, as of December 31, in the Human Capital section of its 10-K. A risk factor on international operations gives the number outside the US.
| Year end | Employees | Change on prior year | Outside the US | In the US (our arithmetic) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| December 31, 2025 | 34,000 | +2,900 (+9.3%) | 20,300 | 13,700 | 2025 10-K, filed February 13, 2026 |
| December 31, 2024 | 31,100 | +700 (+2.3%) | 18,000 | 13,100 | 2024 10-K, filed February 14, 2025 |
| December 31, 2023 | 30,400 | -2,400 (-7.3%) | 17,500 | 12,900 | 2023 10-K, filed February 15, 2024 |
| December 31, 2022 | 32,800 | +3,500 (+11.9%) | 19,200 | 13,600 | 2022 10-K, filed February 21, 2023 |
| December 31, 2021 | 29,300 | +6,500 (+28.5%) | 12,300 | 17,000 | 2021 10-K, filed February 24, 2022 |
| December 31, 2020 | 22,800 | -4,100 (-15.2%) | 12,400 | 10,400 | 2020 10-K, filed March 1, 2021 |
| December 31, 2019 | 26,900 | 16,200 | 10,700 | 2019 10-K, filed March 2, 2020 |
Each filing gives the figures as "approximately", rounded to the nearest hundred. The changes and the US figures are our arithmetic. The filings don't explain why the split moved so sharply between 2021 and 2022, when the US figure fell 3,400 while the total rose 3,500. Uber's 10-Qs and earnings releases don't report headcount, so the 2025 10-K holds the latest company figure until the 2026 10-K, due around February 2027.
What the number includes
- Uber and its subsidiaries. The 10-K says "we and our subsidiaries had approximately 34,000 employees globally," in a company that operates in more than 70 countries. The filing doesn't say whether the count is full-time only or how part-time staff are treated.
- Not drivers or couriers. The 10-K defines Mobility Drivers as "independent providers of ride services" and says "We believe that Drivers are independent contractors," pointing to their freedom to choose when and where they work. They're outside the count however many there are, which is why Uber's headcount is small next to the work its platform handles.
- Not Freight carriers or merchants. Shippers, carriers and restaurants on Uber's platforms are customers or partners, not employees.
- Union agreements for earners, not staff. The Human Capital section describes a renewed agreement with the International Transport Workers' Federation, "a democratic, affiliate-led federation of over 700 transport workers' unions." It concerns drivers and couriers, who aren't in the employee count.
- A point-in-time count on December 31, not an average.
What changed and why
2020: pandemic cuts
On May 6, 2020 Uber announced plans to cut its customer support and recruiting teams "by approximately 3,700 full-time employee roles." On May 18 it filed an 8-K saying it "expects to reduce its workforce by approximately 3,000 full-time employee roles," with $175 million to $220 million of charges and site closures. The 2020 10-K puts the total at "approximately 6,700 full-time employee roles." Year-end headcount fell 4,100. Uber also completed the acquisition of Postmates on December 1, 2020.
2021 and 2022: acquisitions and recovery
Headcount rose 6,500 in 2021, the year Uber completed the acquisition of Transplace, a freight logistics company, and another 3,500 in 2022.
2023 to 2025: smaller, then growing
Headcount fell 2,400 in 2023. The filings don't give a cause, saying only in general terms that "we have implemented several reductions in workforce and restructurings, and may in the future implement other reductions in workforce." Growth resumed in 2024. For 2025 the 10-K attributes part of the cost growth in operations and support, sales and marketing, research and development, and general and administrative to employee headcount, including a "$313 million increase in employee headcount costs" in research and development.
Revenue per employee
Uber's 2025 revenue was $52,017 million. Divided by the year-end headcount, that's $52,017 million ÷ 34,000 = about $1.53 million per employee (our calculation).
| Year | Revenue | Employees at year end | Revenue per employee (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $52.0 billion | 34,000 | about $1.53 million |
| 2024 | $44.0 billion | 31,100 | about $1.41 million |
| 2023 | $37.3 billion | 30,400 | about $1.23 million |
| 2022 | $31.9 billion | 32,800 | about $972,000 |
| 2021 | $17.5 billion | 29,300 | about $596,000 |
Revenue nearly tripled between 2021 and 2025 while headcount rose 16%, which is what a platform business looks like when the people doing the trips aren't employees. By segment, Mobility brought in $29,670 million in 2025 (57%), Delivery $17,248 million (33%) and Freight $5,099 million (10%). Uber doesn't report headcount by segment. For other companies measured this way, see the highest revenue per employee list.
Selling to a company this size
General guidance on how technology companies of 34,000 people buy, not a description of Uber's internal processes.
- Pick the business. Mobility, Delivery and Freight have their own leaders, metrics and tools. Freight buys like a logistics company; Delivery buys like a marketplace.
- Think in markets. With 60% of employees outside the US, many decisions sit with regional or country teams. Find the region where your product fits first.
- Expect engineering buyers. A company that builds its own platform will compare your product with building it in-house. Show the time and cost of doing it themselves.
- Land with one team. Win where the problem is sharpest and use the result to reach the next team: the land and expand motion.
- Name the people. Work out who signs, who uses and who can block. Our guide to finding decision makers shows how.
Mapping which team owns your problem is the slow part with an account like this. Bebop researches each account and suggests who to talk to and the angle to open with; check what it finds against the company's filings.

Questions people ask
How many employees does Uber have in 2026?
Uber's latest reported figure is approximately 34,000 employees globally on December 31, 2025, from its 2025 10-K filed February 13, 2026. Uber doesn't give headcount in its quarterly 10-Q reports or earnings releases, so there is no company figure for a date in 2026. The next one will be in the 10-K for 2026, normally filed in February.
Are Uber drivers employees?
Not according to Uber. Its 10-K describes drivers as independent providers of ride services and says "We believe that Drivers are independent contractors," citing their freedom to choose when and where they work and to use other platforms. Drivers and couriers aren't in Uber's employee count of about 34,000. The 10-K also describes legal challenges to that classification in several countries.
How many Uber employees are in the US?
About 13,700 at December 31, 2025, by our arithmetic. Uber's 2025 10-K says it had approximately 34,000 global employees, of whom approximately 20,300 were located outside the United States. On the same basis the US figure was about 13,100 at the end of 2024 and about 17,000 at the end of 2021. Uber doesn't publish counts for individual countries.
How many people did Uber lay off in 2020?
About 6,700 full-time employee roles, announced in May 2020: about 3,700 in customer support and recruiting on May 6, and about 3,000 more on May 18, with $175 million to $220 million of charges for the second round. Uber's headcount fell from about 26,900 at the end of 2019 to about 22,800 at the end of 2020.
What is Uber's revenue per employee?
About $1.53 million in 2025, by our calculation: revenue of $52,017 million divided by about 34,000 employees at December 31, 2025, both from the 2025 10-K. In 2021 the same calculation gives about $596,000. The ratio is high partly because drivers and couriers, who do most of the work, are not employees.
