Short answer
Airbnb had approximately 8,200 employees as of December 31, 2025, according to its Form 10-K filed February 12, 2026, up from about 7,300 a year earlier. This page is for sellers sizing Airbnb as an account, recruiters and analysts, and anyone who needs a citable headcount. Every figure comes from Airbnb, Inc.'s annual report on Form 10-K. Airbnb's fiscal year is the calendar year. It went public in December 2020, so its first 10-K covers 2020.
Airbnb employees by year
| Year | As of | Employees | Employees outside the US | Third-party support workers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | December 31, 2025 | about 8,200 | not stated | about 13,000 | 10-K filed February 12, 2026 |
| 2024 | December 31, 2024 | about 7,300 | not stated | about 11,000 | 10-K filed February 13, 2025 |
| 2023 | December 31, 2023 | 6,907 | about 3,000 | about 11,000 | 10-K filed February 16, 2024 |
| 2022 | December 31, 2022 | 6,811 | about 2,820 | about 11,000 | 10-K filed February 17, 2023 |

Airbnb gave exact counts through 2023 and rounded figures from 2024. The 10-Ks for 2020 to 2022 also say it had offices in 27 cities (2020 and 2021) and 29 cities (2022).
What the number includes
The 2025 10-K says: "As of December 31, 2025, we had approximately 8,200 employees. Consistent with prior years, we relied on a global network of approximately 13,000 third-party workers as of December 31, 2025, to support the majority of our community support contacts."
- Employees only. The 8,200 are Airbnb employees. The 13,000 third-party workers are supplied by outside firms and aren't counted.
- Support is mostly outsourced. Airbnb's own community support employees "focus on managing complex and sensitive issues," while enablement teams support "all community-facing teams and partners." The routine volume goes to the third-party network.
- Mostly remote. Airbnb's "Live and Work Anywhere" policy "allows for the vast majority of our employees to work remotely," so office locations say little about where people are.
- Global. About 3,000 employees were outside the US at the end of 2023, the last year the 10-K gave the split, or about 43% (our calculation). In 2025, 61% of revenue came from listings outside the US.
What changed and why
- May 2020: about 1,800 jobs cut. The 2020 10-K says: "Because of the COVID-19 crisis, we made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce by approximately 1,800 employees in May 2020, which was approximately a quarter of our workforce at the time." The reduction and other restructuring cost $151.4 million. A later 10-K says the cut "significantly reduced the number of employees in our community support organization and our technology organization."
- 2021 to 2023: slow regrowth. Headcount rose from 5,597 to 6,907 over three years, about 23% (our calculation), while revenue nearly tripled from $3.4 billion in 2020 to $9.9 billion in 2023.
- 2024 and 2025: faster hiring. The 10-K attributes rising costs to headcount: in 2025, payroll-related expenses grew $293 million in product development, $121 million in sales and marketing and $51 million in general and administrative, each "driven by an increase in headcount." The same year Airbnb launched Airbnb Services and redesigned experiences (May 2025) as part of extending its platform "beyond stays."
Revenue per employee
| Year | Revenue | Employees | Revenue per employee (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $12,241 million | about 8,200 | about $1.49 million |
| 2024 | $11,102 million | about 7,300 | about $1.52 million |
| 2023 | $9,917 million | 6,907 | about $1.44 million |
| 2022 | $8,399 million | 6,811 | about $1.23 million |
For 2025: $12,241 million divided by 8,200 is about $1.49 million. Revenue per employee fell slightly in 2025 because headcount grew faster (12%) than revenue (10%). If you add the 13,000 third-party support workers, revenue per person working on Airbnb's business is about $577,000 (our calculation), a fairer comparison with companies that keep support in-house.
Airbnb reports a single segment. By location of the listing, 2025 revenue was $4,814 million from the US and $7,427 million from everywhere else. The 10-K doesn't split employees by function.
Selling to a company of Airbnb's size
General guidance, not a description of Airbnb's internal process.
A remote-first company of about 8,200 people with most support outsourced buys in a few clear places.
- Product and engineering. Product development expense was $2,354 million in 2025, and it had the largest headcount-driven payroll increase of any line in the 10-K. Developer, data and infrastructure tools are bought by engineering leaders.
- Community support operations. With about 13,000 third-party agents, Airbnb manages vendors, quality and tooling at scale. Support technology, quality assurance, trust and safety, and workforce management are natural fits.
- Marketing and brand. Sales and marketing expense was $2,588 million in 2025, up 20%. Airbnb says it relies more on brand than on performance marketing.
- Remote by design. Collaboration, onboarding and security tools for a distributed workforce matter more here than at an office-first company.

Questions people ask
Does Airbnb's employee count include customer support agents?
Only its own. Airbnb's 2025 10-K reports about 8,200 employees and, separately, "a global network of approximately 13,000 third-party workers" who support the majority of community support contacts. Those third-party workers aren't Airbnb employees. Airbnb's own support staff handle complex and sensitive issues. The third-party network was about 11,000 from 2022 to 2024.
How many people did Airbnb lay off?
About 1,800 in May 2020, roughly a quarter of its workforce at the time, because of the COVID-19 crisis, according to Airbnb's 2020 10-K. The reduction and related restructuring cost $151.4 million. Airbnb's 10-Ks since then don't report another reduction in force, and headcount has grown every year, from 5,597 at the end of 2020 to about 8,200 at the end of 2025.
Do Airbnb employees work remotely?
Mostly. Airbnb's 10-K says its "Live and Work Anywhere" policy "allows for the vast majority of our employees to work remotely," which lets it hire beyond commuting range of its offices. It still brings teams together for in-person sessions at offices or off-site locations. The filing doesn't say what share of employees work fully remotely.
How much revenue does Airbnb make per employee?
About $1.49 million in 2025, by our calculation: revenue of $12,241 million divided by about 8,200 employees at year-end. That's down slightly from about $1.52 million in 2024 because headcount grew 12% and revenue 10%. Counting the 13,000 third-party support workers as well gives about $577,000 per person, which is the fairer figure to compare with companies that staff support themselves.
When does Airbnb report its employee count?
Once a year, in the Human Capital section of its Form 10-K, filed in February. The count is as of December 31. The latest is about 8,200 employees at December 31, 2025, from the 10-K filed February 12, 2026, together with the size of its third-party support network. Quarterly reports don't update either figure.
