How we compared
Blackpearl Group, which makes Bebop, wrote this page. Bebop isn't an email finder, so it appears only once below, for the research step. Our rules:
- Selection. Each alternative replaces at least one Hunter job and appeared in the Hunter alternatives pages we reviewed from the top search results on 26 October 2026. Most of those pages were written by a vendor ranking itself first.
- Facts. Every price, credit rule and guarantee comes from the vendor's own pricing page or FAQ, read on 26 October 2026. Prices are list prices before tax; Dropcontact prices in euros. Accuracy figures are the vendors' own claims.
- No hands-on scores. We haven't run a controlled benchmark. The test below is how to measure find rate and bounces on your own contacts.
- Fairness. For each job, we say when Hunter is still the better choice.

How Hunter's credits work, from its pricing page:
- Finding: 1 credit per email found through Domain Search, Email Finder or Bulk Email Finder, and 1 credit for up to 10 emails in a Bulk Domain Search. If a Domain Search finds nothing, no credit is used.
- Verifying: 0.5 credits per email checked.
- Rollover: monthly credits reset and don't roll over. On yearly billing, the whole year's credits arrive upfront.
- Users: unlimited team members on every plan.
- API only: the Hunter Data Platform sells credits without a subscription: $50 for 1,000 search credits and $11 for 1,000 verification credits, usable for 12 months, with repeated searches counted once per calendar month.
Paid plans also include Hunter's Discover database (advanced filters, including technologies), signals and email sequences. What Hunter doesn't list is phone numbers.

Two guarantees go beyond "no find, no charge". Findymail says that if your bounce rate on its emails exceeds 5%, it refunds the credits. Anymail Finder says that if an email it verified bounces, it credits it back, and it verifies catch-all addresses rather than marking them risky.
Worked example: a two-person consultancy emailing banks
Illustrative example. The firm, find rates and volumes are invented. The bank count is real, and prices are list prices published on 26 October 2026, before tax.
The firm: Brightwater Compliance (brightwater.example) is two partners who review anti-money-laundering programs for community banks. They're launching in Illinois, where the FDIC's BankFind listed 117 active institutions with $250 million to $1 billion in assets on 26 October 2026 (data as of 30 June 2026). They want three people at each bank: the CEO, the CFO and the BSA officer.
The first month: 117 banks × 3 = 351 lookups. Assume three in four return a verified email: 351 × 0.75 = 263 emails. The partners also want to re-verify 400 contacts collected at banking conferences.
Credits needed:
- Hunter: 263 found × 1 + 400 verifications × 0.5 = 263 + 200 = 463 credits, inside Starter's 2,000.
- Anymail Finder: 263 × 1 + 400 × 0.2 = 263 + 80 = 343 credits, inside the 400-credit plan.
- Snov.io: 263 + 400 = up to 663 credits, inside Starter's 1,000.
- Voila Norbert: 263 finds inside Valet's 1,000, plus 400 verifications × $0.003 = $1.20, raised to the $2 minimum.
- Prospeo, Skrapp, Findymail, Apollo: 263 finds; check how each prices verifying an outside list (Findymail includes 5,000 verifier credits).
| Option | Fits the month? | Monthly price | Cost per email found |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anymail Finder, 400 credits | Yes: 343 of 400 | $29 | $29 ÷ 263 = $0.11 |
| Snov.io Starter | Yes: up to 663 of 1,000 | $39 | $0.15 |
| Skrapp Professional | Finding: 263 of 2,000 | $39 | $0.15 |
| Hunter Starter | Yes: 463 of 2,000 | $49 | $0.19 |
| Prospeo Starter, 1 user | Finding: 263 of 2,000 | $49 | $0.19 |
| Voila Norbert Valet plus verification | Yes | $49 + $2 = $51 | $0.19 |
| Findymail Starter | Yes, with verifier credits to spare | $99 | $0.38 |
What this shows:
- At low volume, the price gap is small. The cheapest and dearest options differ by $70 a month. Find rate on bank domains matters more: if one tool finds 20 more of the 351 people, that's 20 more bank executives you can reach, which is worth far more than $70 to a consultancy.
- Rollover matters after month one. Once the launch list is done, Brightwater needs perhaps 60 lookups a month for new hires and job changes. On Hunter's monthly plan, about 1,940 of Starter's 2,000 credits would then go unused each month. Anymail Finder, Skrapp and Voila Norbert carry unused credits forward while you stay subscribed.
- Front-loaded campaigns favor yearly billing. Hunter's yearly Starter ($408 a year) delivers all 24,000 credits upfront, so a big launch month doesn't hit a monthly cap.
- Phones change the shortlist. If the partners want mobiles for the 117 BSA officers, Prospeo and Findymail charge 10 credits each (1,170 credits), Apollo 8 extra each (936). Hunter can't supply them.
When to stay with Hunter
- You find most emails from company domains and want several colleagues on one plan: unlimited users is rare among these tools.
- Your sequences fit Hunter's limits (2,500 recipients per sequence on Starter, 3 connected accounts).
- You want an API without a subscription: the Data Platform's pay-as-you-go credits last 12 months.
- Your own test shows Hunter's find rate is as good as the alternatives' on your market.
Run a two-week test on contacts you know
- Build a truth set of 50. Contacts whose work email you know is right because they replied in the last six months. Include small firms and domains that accept mail for any address (catch-all), which separate strong finders from weak ones.
- Search by name and company only. Don't paste the known email; you're testing whether the tool finds it.
- Score every result: +1 correct, 0 for an unknown or catch-all result, -1 wrong. GTM-Bench, Blackpearl Group's June 2026 benchmark of AI prospecting systems, scores records the same way so volume can't hide errors.
- Send a real, compliant email to the +1 results from a warmed-up mailbox and count hard bounces within 48 hours.
- Work out cost per delivered email: monthly price ÷ (emails found a month × share delivered).
Switching checklist
Before you cancel Hunter, move what you've built:
- Export saved leads as CSV, with the source and verification status for each email.
- Copy sequences and templates into the new tool, and pause active ones so no one gets a duplicate.
- Carry over your suppression list. Everyone who opted out must stay opted out in every tool you use.
- Reconnect integrations: CRM, Google Sheets, browser extensions and any API keys in your workflows.
- Time the cancellation. On a yearly plan, you've already paid for the year; on monthly, cancel before the next billing date.
The rules don't change with the tool
The FTC says the CAN-SPAM Act "makes no exception for business-to-business email": every message needs accurate sender details, an honest subject line, a valid postal address and a working opt-out honored within 10 business days, and each email in violation can cost up to $53,088. A finder supplies the address; the obligations stay with you. For the UK and EU rules, see B2B contact databases compared.
Finding the address is the last step, not the first. If you don't yet know which banks or people are worth emailing, start with research: Bebop finds matching companies and contacts and explains why each fits before you spend a single finder credit.
Next step: if you're replacing Hunter's finder rather than its sequences, compare every finder on cost per verified email in the best email finder comparison.

Questions people ask
What is the best free alternative to Hunter.io?
Among the tools we checked on 26 October 2026, Prospeo had the largest permanent free allowance: 100 credits a month, one per verified email. Hunter's own free plan gives 50 credits a month. Skrapp, Voila Norbert and Dropcontact each offer 50 free credits, and Apollo gives 900 credits per seat a year, granted monthly. Free tiers are best used to test a tool on contacts you already know.
Is there a Hunter.io alternative with phone numbers?
Yes. Hunter's pricing page lists email finding and verification, not phone numbers. On 26 October 2026, Prospeo charged 10 credits per direct mobile, Findymail 10 credits per phone (outside the EU only), and Apollo 8 credits on top of the email when a mobile is returned. Lusha charges 5 credits per phone number. Test connect rates on numbers you know before choosing.
How much does Hunter.io cost?
On 26 October 2026, Hunter's Free plan gave 50 credits a month. Starter cost $49 a month or $34 billed yearly for 2,000 credits a month, Growth $149 or $104 for 10,000, and Scale $299 or $209 for 25,000. Enterprise is quote only. Every plan includes unlimited users. An email found costs 1 credit and a verification 0.5, and monthly credits don't roll over.
Which email finder is cheaper than Hunter?
At low volume, Anymail Finder's $29 plan for 400 credits was cheaper per email in our example, especially for verification at 0.2 credits a check against Hunter's 0.5. Skrapp Professional ($39, or $29 billed annually, for 2,000 credits) and Snov.io Starter ($39) also undercut Hunter Starter's $49 monthly price. Hunter's yearly Starter, at $34 a month, narrows the gap. Compare cost per delivered email, not credits.
Do Hunter.io credits roll over?
No. Hunter's pricing page says monthly credits reset and don't roll over. On yearly billing, all of the year's credits are available upfront, which suits teams that run large campaigns in bursts. If your volume varies month to month, Anymail Finder, Skrapp and Voila Norbert roll unused credits over while you stay subscribed, according to their pricing pages on 26 October 2026.
