The largest companies in NYC: 30 headquarters ranked by revenue in their latest filings

New York's biggest companies are mostly banks, insurers and investment firms, and how you count a bank's revenue changes the order. This ranking uses each company's own 10-K, so every figure and headquarters address can be traced to a filing.

The largest companies headquartered in New York City, by revenue in their latest 10-K filings, are JPMorgan Chase ($182.45 billion in 2025), Verizon ($138.19 billion), StoneX Group ($132.38 billion), Citigroup ($85.23 billion) and MetLife ($77.08 billion). The 30 largest reported $1.37 trillion in combined revenue, half of it at banks, brokers and payment companies. The Greater Houston Partnership counts 62 Fortune 500 headquarters in the New York metro area.

  • JPMorgan Chase is the largest NYC company by revenue ($182.45 billion) and by headcount (318,512).
  • Eight banks, brokers and payment companies account for $681.7 billion of the top 30's $1.37 trillion.
  • StoneX and Galaxy Digital rank third and ninth only because their revenue includes commodities and digital assets they sell.
  • IBM, PepsiCo, Prudential, Philip Morris and Bristol Myers Squibb are often called New York companies but file from the suburbs.
  • Travelers lists a Minnesota address with the SEC but names 485 Lexington Avenue as its head office in its 10-K.

The 30 largest companies headquartered in New York City

Each row comes from the company's latest annual report on Form 10-K: the principal executive office on its cover page, revenue as reported (total revenues, net revenues for banks and brokers, or net sales), and the headcount in its human capital section. All 30 have their head offices in Manhattan.

How to read the ranking

Four things change the order more than you'd expect:

  1. Banks report net revenue. Citigroup's income statement shows $85.23 billion of total revenues, net of interest expense. Its gross interest and dividend income was $142.86 billion, the figure some databases use, which would wrongly put it third. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are also ranked on net revenues ($58.28 billion and $70.65 billion).
  2. Gross trading revenue. StoneX books the full value of physical commodities it sells: $132.38 billion of total revenues became $2.05 billion of net operating revenues. Galaxy Digital's $60.41 billion is almost all digital asset sales ($59.85 billion). Ranked by net revenue, neither would make the top 30.
  3. Deals inside the year. Paramount Skydance's 2025 figure combines two reporting periods in its 10-K, the predecessor Paramount Global to August 6 ($16.62 billion) and the merged company from August 7 ($12.27 billion). Omnicom's includes Interpublic Group only from the merger's completion in late November 2025.
  4. Fiscal years differ. Fox and Estee Lauder report years ending in June 2026, Kyndryl in March 2026 and StoneX in September 2025, so the table mixes 12-month periods.

Consolidated Edison's XBRL data tags $17.05 billion of revenue from contracts with customers, but its income statement total is $16.92 billion; the table uses the income statement.

Who isn't on the list, and why

CompanyWhy it's excluded
IBM10-K cover gives Armonk, New York (Westchester County)
PepsiCo10-K cover gives Purchase, New York (Westchester County)
Philip Morris International10-K cover gives Stamford, Connecticut
Prudential Financial10-K cover gives 751 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey
Bristol Myers Squibb10-K cover gives Princeton, New Jersey
JD.com, MercadoLibreShow New York addresses in some SEC-based datasets, but their annual reports name Beijing and Montevideo
Interpublic GroupMerged into Omnicom in November 2025

Private companies and mutual insurers are also missing, because they don't file 10-Ks. Travelers is the opposite case: the SEC's company record still shows St. Paul, Minnesota, but its 10-K names its Manhattan office as the principal executive office, so it's on the list.

Fortune 500 companies in New York

Fortune ranks by revenue too, with its own definitions and cutoffs, and it counts metro areas rather than the city. The Greater Houston Partnership's tally of the 2026 Fortune 500 puts 62 in the New York metro area, the most of any US metro, a count that includes the Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut headquarters above. Some of the lists that rank highly in search are older: Baruch College's NYCdata ranking of New York City headquarters uses Fortune's 2019 figures. Use Fortune's site for its ranks and this table for figures you can trace to a current filing.

Finance in all its forms is 19 of the 30 companies and about 73% of the revenue. That concentration matches the Census data for the five boroughs, where finance and insurance has 4.1% of establishments but 27.4% of payroll.

Selling to New York's largest companies

Expect a vendor onboarding process before any purchase order: a supplier portal, a security questionnaire, insurance certificates and payment terms set by the buyer. For the banks and insurers, the security review is not optional. New York's Department of Financial Services requires every company licensed under the state's Banking, Insurance or Financial Services Law to run a risk-based cybersecurity program under its Part 500 regulation, and that program reaches the vendors who touch their systems or data. The 10-K helps you aim: segment reporting names the business units with their own budgets, and the human capital section tells you how many people a per-seat product would cover.

Illustrative example. The seller and its figures are fictional; the company figures are from the table.

Varick Risk (varickrisk.example) sells software that automates vendor security questionnaires and wants the third-party risk teams at the 14 banks, brokers, payment companies and insurers in the top 30.

  • Those 14 reported $891.5 billion in combined revenue, so each runs hundreds or thousands of vendor reviews a year.
  • At $90,000 a year per company, three wins would be $270,000 of annual revenue.
  • Because sales cycles at this size run two or three budget rounds, it starts with the four whose third-party risk leaders have changed in the last year, then works the rest.

Bebop can find the third-party risk and vendor management leaders at each of the 14 and draft outreach that reflects what each says about cybersecurity in its 10-K.

Subject: Vendor reviews at [Company]

Hi [first name],

[Company]'s 10-K describes how much of your operations depend on third parties. At most firms your size, the team reviewing those vendors is the bottleneck: questionnaires go out by email and come back months later.

We automate the questionnaire cycle for New York banks and insurers, with evidence mapped to the controls your examiners ask about. Would a 20-minute look at how one insurer cut review time in half be useful?

Questions people ask

What is the biggest company in New York City?

By revenue, JPMorgan Chase is the largest company headquartered in New York City: $182.45 billion in 2025, according to its 10-K, with 318,512 employees. Verizon is second with $138.19 billion. Citigroup, often listed second, reported $85.23 billion of net revenue; its larger $142.86 billion figure is gross interest income, not revenue.

How many Fortune 500 companies are in New York?

The Greater Houston Partnership's count of the 2026 Fortune 500 puts 62 headquarters in the New York metro area, more than any other US metro. That metro count includes suburban headquarters such as IBM in Armonk, PepsiCo in Purchase and Prudential in Newark. Within the five boroughs, the largest by revenue are JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, StoneX, Citigroup and MetLife.

Which New York City companies have the most employees?

From their latest 10-Ks, JPMorgan Chase had 318,512 employees at the end of 2025, Citigroup about 226,000 full-time employees and Omnicom about 120,000 after its merger with Interpublic. Marsh McLennan reports more than 95,000 colleagues and Macy's about 90,134 US employees. These are company-wide totals; 10-Ks rarely break out New York City headcount.

Is IBM headquartered in New York City?

No. IBM's 10-K gives its principal executive office as Armonk, New York, in Westchester County, about 35 miles north of Manhattan. PepsiCo (Purchase, New York), Philip Morris International (Stamford, Connecticut), Prudential Financial (Newark, New Jersey) and Bristol Myers Squibb (Princeton, New Jersey) are also New York metro companies headquartered outside the five boroughs.

Why is StoneX one of the biggest companies in New York?

StoneX reports the full value of physical commodities it buys and sells as revenue, so its total revenues were $132.38 billion for the year to September 2025. After subtracting the cost of those commodities and interest, its net operating revenues were $2.05 billion. Ranked on that measure it would not be among New York's 30 largest companies.
