The largest companies in Portland, Oregon: every public headquarters, ranked by revenue

Portland's list of public headquarters is short and lopsided: Nike reports almost three-quarters of the combined revenue, and only one other company tops $3.5 billion. Several names people expect have moved, been bought or never filed at all.

Notes on the figures. Nike's count includes retail and part-time employees, and its 10-K says about 10,600 people work at its headquarters near Beaverton. KinderCare's includes about 35,700 full-time staff. Greenbrier says about half its workforce is in Mexico; its fiscal 2026 annual report, filed on 26 October 2026, shows revenue down from $3.24 billion in fiscal 2025. Barrett Business Services' 3,197 are its own staff; as a professional employer organization it also co-employs the staff of its client companies, an average of 138,218 worksite employees in 2025. Riverview's revenue is net interest income plus noninterest income. A few other listed companies have metro addresses but little or no revenue.

Nike and everyone else

Nike's $46.4 billion is 72.8% of the 13 companies' $63.7 billion. Take it out, and the Portland area's public companies are a mid-size group: two utilities, an outdoor apparel brand, a childcare chain, a railcar builder and a handful of technology and industrial firms, none above $3.6 billion.

By headcount the order changes: KinderCare's 43,700 employees put it second to Nike, and Greenbrier and Columbia Sportswear each employ more people than the two utilities combined.

The Washington side

Five of the 13 are in Clark County, Washington: ZoomInfo, Barrett Business Services, NWPX and Riverview in Vancouver, and nLight in Camas, with $3.32 billion in combined revenue. Washington companies register with Washington's Secretary of State, so check their status in its corporations system, not Oregon's.

Who isn't on the list, and why

CompanyWhat the record shows
CorVelLatest 10-K (fiscal year ended March 2026) gives Fort Worth, Texas as its principal executive office; the SEC still lists a Portland business address
Datavault AILatest 10-K gives Philadelphia as its principal executive office, though its SEC address is in Beaverton
Radius Recycling (formerly Schnitzer Steel)Filed to delist (Form 25) on 10 July 2025 and to deregister (Form 15) on 21 July 2025; its last 10-K, for the year to August 2024, reported $2.74 billion
Columbia Banking System10-K gives Tacoma, Washington as its headquarters; Greater Portland Inc. lists its Columbia Bank (including Umpqua Bank) with 957 regional employees

Greater Portland Inc.'s major employers list also marks Precision Castparts, Daimler Trucks North America and Fred Meyer Stores as headquartered in the region. None files its own annual report with the SEC, so they aren't ranked here, and neither are private companies such as those on GPI's list.

Fortune 500 companies in Portland

Fortune publishes its ranks on its own site, using its own revenue definitions, so use it for the official list. By revenue in SEC filings, Nike is the only Portland-area company above $5 billion; the next largest, Portland General Electric, reported $3.6 billion.

Selling to Portland's largest companies

With one giant and a dozen mid-size companies, Portland accounts behave differently. Nike buys like any global company: central procurement, supplier onboarding and security reviews, with budgets set around a fiscal year that ends in May. The others are small enough that a functional leader often owns a decision outright, and their 10-Ks tell you what those leaders are worried about.

Illustrative example. The seller and its figures are fictional; the company figures are from Portland General Electric's 10-K.

Cascade Canopy (cascadecanopy.example) sells satellite-based vegetation monitoring to electric utilities and wants Portland General Electric as an anchor account.

  • PGE's 10-K says it served about 960,000 retail customers at the end of 2025, entirely within Oregon.
  • It also says the Oregon Public Utility Commission requires PGE to develop and implement a Wildfire Mitigation Plan, aimed at reducing the risk of ignition from its equipment.
  • Cascade Canopy prices by customers served, at $0.25 per customer a year, so PGE would be worth about $240,000 a year.
  • It starts with PGE's wildfire mitigation and vegetation management leaders, then the asset management team, and times outreach before the next plan filing.

Bebop can find the wildfire and vegetation management leaders at PGE and at other Western utilities, and draft outreach that refers to each utility's own plan.

Email to a vegetation management leader at a Pacific Northwest utility
Subject: Vegetation risk in [Company]'s next wildfire plan

Hi [first name],

Your 10-K describes the Wildfire Mitigation Plan [Company] maintains for the state regulator. Most utilities we work with say the hardest part is showing where trimming reduced risk, not doing the trimming.

We map vegetation encroachment along every circuit from satellite imagery every month, with reports formatted for regulatory filings. Could I show you a sample for one of your high-risk circuits?

[Your name], Cascade Canopy
