Law firms in Las Vegas: how many there are, how big they get and how to hire or sell to one

Las Vegas law offices are small, but Nevada's lawyers aren't all in small firms: more of them work at firms of 15 or more lawyers than at firms of two to four. Read the Census count and the bar's own survey together and the market's shape becomes clear.

Las Vegas law offices in Census data

County Business Patterns (CBP) 2023 counts offices of lawyers (NAICS 541110) in the Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas, NV Metro Area (CBSA 29820), which is Clark County.

Grouped, 1,241 offices have 1 to 19 employees, 80 have 20 to 99 and three have 100 or more. The Census Bureau doesn't publish the classes above 249 here, but the published classes add up to all 1,324 offices, so none is larger. The notable feature is the 10 to 19 class: 139 offices, 10.5% of the market, against 7.4% nationally. Las Vegas has an unusually deep layer of practices big enough to need staff and systems but too small for a dedicated IT or operations hire.

The usual limits apply. CBP counts offices with paid employees, not firms, so a firm with Summerlin and downtown offices counts twice. Lawyers working alone without employees aren't included (the Census Bureau's Nonemployer Statistics count 1,835 legal services businesses with no paid employees in the metro area in 2024), and in-house and government lawyers are counted in their employers' industries. No law firm here is an SEC-registered public company.

What the State Bar of Nevada publishes

The State Bar of Nevada regulates lawyers under the supervision of the Nevada Supreme Court. Its member demographics page says "nearly 14,000 attorneys" are licensed in Nevada and gives where members are:

Where members areShare
Clark County50.13%
Washoe County13.21%
Carson City2.38%
Rural Nevada counties2.84%
Out of state31.44%

The same page reports the bar's most recent demographics survey, which more than 8,000 members completed:

Practice size (survey respondents)Members
Solo practitioner2,869
Small firm (2 to 4 attorneys)1,544
Medium firm (5 to 14 attorneys)1,633
Large firm (15 or more attorneys)2,588

Read with the Census table, that means most offices are small, but a large share of the lawyers sit in the few firms of 15 or more. A seller who only counts offices will over-invest in solos; one who only counts lawyers will forget that 911 offices have fewer than five people. The survey also counts 5,280 respondents in private practice and 1,314 public lawyers. These are survey responses, not a full census of members.

Las Vegas, Nevada, not New Mexico

Search results for this query mix in firms from Las Vegas, New Mexico. Nevada lawyers are licensed by the State Bar of Nevada; a New Mexico lawyer isn't automatically licensed to handle a Nevada case. Check the state on any license you rely on.

It's a nonprofit professional association whose members include attorneys, judges, legal assistants and "merchants", and its Marketplace lets businesses promote their services on its website and in its print magazine, Communiqué. Illustrative example. The company, prices and results are invented.

Desert Chart Retrieval (desertchart.example) collects medical records for injury cases. It targets offices of 5 to 49 employees: 191 + 139 + 67 = 397. Reviewing their websites, it keeps the roughly 30% that list personal injury as a main practice, about 119 firms. It contacts two people at each, the managing attorney and the case manager who orders records, so 238 people. At a 5% reply rate that's about 12 conversations; if a third send a test batch of requests, four trials. Firms that buy records weekly reorder fast, so four trials can become four steady accounts within a quarter. Checking practice areas on 397 sites is the slow step; Bebop does that matching and writes an account playbook for each firm.
