Short answer
Wyoming had 23,865 business establishments with paid employees in 2023, employing 212,203 people, according to the Census Bureau's County Business Patterns. The Secretary of State's register is far larger: 68,125 new domestic entities, 62,880 of them LLCs, were filed in the third quarter of 2026 alone, three-quarters of them in Sheridan County. Only one exchange-listed operating company, uranium producer Ur-Energy of Casper, gives a Wyoming head office in its 10-K.
- 68,125 new domestic entities were filed with the Secretary of State from July to September 2026, 2.9 times the state's 23,865 workplaces with employees.
- 75.0% of those new filings sit in Sheridan County, where the state's roster puts 30 of its 382 commercial registered agents at one street address.
- Ur-Energy, a Casper uranium producer with $27.2 million of 2025 sales, is the only exchange-listed operating company with a Wyoming head office.
- Mining, quarrying and oil and gas pay an average $107,215, 1.8 times the statewide average of $58,628.
- Just 7 Wyoming workplaces have 1,000 or more employees, and 90.8% have fewer than 20.

This page is for anyone trying to find, check or count Wyoming businesses: buyers vetting a supplier, people researching the state's economy, and B2B sellers sizing it. It starts with the gap between Wyoming's company register and its working businesses, then how to look a business up, the public companies based in the state, and the Census figures by county and sector.
Registered companies versus working businesses
Three official counts describe Wyoming business, and they measure very different things:
| Count | Number | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Establishments with paid employees (Census Bureau, 2023) | 23,865 | Physical business locations with a payroll |
| Employers insured for workers' compensation (State of Wyoming, 30 June 2025) | 17,968 | Employers covered by the state fund, which is compulsory for extra-hazardous work |
| New domestic entities filed, 1 July to 30 September 2026 (Secretary of State) | 68,125 | Corporations, LLCs, partnerships and trusts formed in Wyoming in one quarter |
The new filings break down as 62,880 limited liability companies, 4,453 profit corporations, 384 nonprofit corporations, 238 limited partnerships, 148 statutory trusts and 22 others. By our count of the Secretary of State's list, 51,069 of them (75.0%) are filed under Sheridan County, which has 2,670 establishments with employees, and 37,196 (54.6%) give the same mailing address: 30 N. Gould Street in Sheridan.
Registered agents are the link. Every Wyoming entity needs one with a physical address in the state, and the Secretary of State's roster of commercial registered agents (those serving more than ten businesses), dated 29 October 2026, lists 382 of them. Thirty give an address at 30 N. Gould Street in Sheridan. A Wyoming company record tells you a company exists; it doesn't tell you anyone works in Wyoming.
How to look up a Wyoming business
| Source | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Wyoming Secretary of State business entity search | Whether an entity exists and is active, its filing date, registered agent and filed documents |
| Secretary of State business statistics | Quarterly lists of new domestic charters, foreign registrations and trade names, by county |
| Commercial registered agents | The roster of agents serving more than ten businesses, and the office's guidance on them |
| Wyoming Business Council | The state's economic development agency: industry programs, community data and site listings |
| SEC EDGAR, Wyoming 10-K filers | Annual reports for public companies with Wyoming addresses |
To judge whether a Wyoming company actually operates in the state, compare its registered agent's address with its principal office in the entity record, then look for local signs: a contractor or professional license, a physical site, local job postings. If the principal office is the agent's address, assume it's a holding or out-of-state company until you find otherwise.
Public companies headquartered in Wyoming
SEC company records list 15 companies with listed securities and a Wyoming business address. On their latest annual reports, six give a Wyoming principal office:
| Company | Office on 10-K cover | Market | Revenue | Year ended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ur-Energy | Casper | NYSE American and TSX | $27.2 million | Dec 2025 |
| Sentient Brands Holdings | 30 N. Gould St, Sheridan | Over the counter | $701,463 | Dec 2025 |
| DeltaSoft | Registered agent's address, Cheyenne | Over the counter | $37,918 | Mar 2026 |
| Made in USA Inc. | Cheyenne | Over the counter | $37,036 | Feb 2026 |
| LSEB Creative | 30 N. Gould St, Sheridan | Over the counter | $17,906 | Mar 2026 |
| Bubblr | 30 N. Gould St, Sheridan | Over the counter | $3,369 | Dec 2025 |
Ur-Energy, which mines uranium at its Lost Creek project, is the only one with a substantial operation in the state. Three of the others use the Sheridan address above, and DeltaSoft's cover page names its "Wyoming Registered Agent" as its office. The rest of the SEC list falls away on inspection: Eyeonix AIQ's 10-K gives Grove City, Pennsylvania; Universal Token's gives San Salvador, El Salvador; North America Lithium & Gold's gives Gurnee, Illinois; FrankSpeech Network deregistered in 2018; and five others, including the Nasdaq blank-check company Apogee Acquisition, haven't filed a 10-K.

The top eight of Wyoming's 23 counties hold 71.7% of establishments, and Campbell and Sweetwater pay the most. Park County's payroll is flagged by the Census Bureau as moderately affected by the noise it adds for confidentiality. CBP counts locations, not companies, and leaves out self-employed people, government and most farm and ranch work.
What Wyoming businesses do
| Sector (NAICS) | Establishments | Employees | Average pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Professional, scientific and technical services (54) | 3,352 | 13,331 | $74,487 |
| Construction (23) | 2,981 | 18,196 | $70,006 |
| Retail trade (44 to 45) | 2,674 | 32,123 | $37,949 |
| Health care and social assistance (62) | 2,211 | 33,962 | $61,412 |
| Accommodation and food services (72) | 1,877 | 28,884 | $27,711 |

| Transportation and warehousing (48 to 49) | 1,009 | 10,296 | $65,355 |
| Manufacturing (31 to 33) | 600 | 10,171 | $87,572 |
| Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (21) | 577 | 13,639 | $107,215 |
Average pay is our calculation from CBP payroll. Mining and energy is small in establishments but employs 6.4% of private workers at the state's highest pay; coal mining alone has 13 establishments and 4,030 employees. Health care has the biggest workplaces: 3 of the 7 with 1,000 or more staff.
We couldn't find a published list of Wyoming's largest employers by name. The state's 2025 annual financial report has no principal-employer table, and Cheyenne LEADS, Advance Casper and the Wyoming Business Council don't publish one on their sites. For the neighboring state, see companies in Colorado and oil and gas companies in Colorado.
Prospecting Wyoming's oilfield service companies
Support activities for mining (NAICS 213), which covers drilling contractors, well services and other field support, is the largest group within Wyoming's mining and energy sector: 399 establishments and 6,495 employees at average pay of $95,772. Sizes above 249 employees aren't published for this industry.

Powder River Telematics (powderrivertelematics.example) sells vehicle tracking and driver-safety software to field service fleets.
- Oilfield service establishments with 20 to 99 employees: 70 + 20 = 90.
- It assumes a third are yards of out-of-state service companies, bought from a head office in Texas or Colorado: about 60 Wyoming-run companies.
- At $12,000 a year and a 20% win rate, that's 12 customers and $144,000 a year.
It skips any entity whose only Wyoming address is a registered agent, leads with the operations manager or HSE manager, and times outreach to insurance renewals and spring field season. Separating real Wyoming operators from shell registrations, and finding who runs the fleet at each, is the research Bebop does for every account on a list.
Subject: Your trucks between Gillette and the rigs Hi [first name], Most well-service crews we talk to in the Powder River Basin find out about a speeding or hard-braking problem only after the insurer does. Powder River Telematics flags it the same day and gives you a weekly safety score per driver. Would it help to see what that looked like for a 30-truck fleet in its first quarter?
