The 25 largest companies headquartered in Pittsburgh
Each row is from the company's latest annual report on Form 10-K: the principal executive office on its cover, revenue as reported, and headcount from its human capital section. We checked every company the SEC lists with a Pittsburgh-area business address and kept those whose filing confirms a headquarters in the Pittsburgh, PA metro.

Notes on the figures:
- Banks. PNC and F.N.B. are shown at total revenue: net interest income plus noninterest income. The SEC's structured data tags PNC's gross interest income ($25.31 billion) instead, which would overstate it.
- EQT gives Pittsburgh on its 10-K cover, although the SEC's company record lists Canonsburg.
- Dick's headcount includes 45,400 people who joined with its acquisition of Foot Locker; American Eagle's includes about 35,000 part-time or seasonal associates.
- Matthews' figure is its own workforce at 31 October 2025; it reports separately on Propelis, a brand-solutions business in which it holds a 40% stake.
Where the people actually are
Most of these companies employ only a fraction of their people in Western Pennsylvania, and few say how many. The 10-Ks that break it out:
| Company | What the 10-K says |
|---|---|
| Federated Hermes | 1,234 of 2,091 employees in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas |
| Kraft Heinz | About 16,000 of about 35,000 in the United States |
| PPG Industries | About 11,000 of about 43,500 in the United States |
| Wesco International | More than 13,000 of about 21,000 in the United States |
| Kennametal | About 2,500 of 8,073 in the United States |
| MSA Safety | About 2,200 of about 5,300 in the United States |
| Coherent | 3,719 in the Americas, 44,582 in Asia-Pacific and 3,177 in Europe |
For local headcount, the state's Top 50 Employers lists are the better source: PNC Bank ranks fifth in Allegheny County, and PPG, Dick's and Federated Hermes (listed under its old name, Federated Investors) all appear in its top 50.
A list built on industry
| Group | Companies | Combined revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial manufacturing | PPG, Alcoa, Wabtec, Howmet, Coherent, Kennametal, Koppers, MSA Safety, Matthews, L.B. Foster, Ampco-Pittsburgh | $63.83 billion |
| Consumer | Kraft Heinz, Dick's, American Eagle | $47.70 billion |
| Financial | PNC, Federated Hermes, F.N.B. | $26.66 billion |
| Distribution | Wesco | $23.51 billion |
| Energy | EQT, Core Natural Resources, CNX | $15.05 billion |
| Health and life sciences | Viatris, Krystal Biotech | $14.69 billion |
| Technology | Duolingo, Mastech Digital | $1.23 billion |
Metals and materials still anchor the list (aluminum, aerospace castings, tooling, wood treatment, coatings), while software is a small slice by revenue despite the region's reputation for robotics and AI research. Duolingo is the only software company in the top 25.
Who isn't on the list, and why
| Company | What its SEC record shows |
|---|---|
| United States Steel | Delisted 18 June 2025 and deregistered 30 June 2025; it still ranks 18th on Allegheny County's employer list |
| Ansys (Canonsburg) | Delisted 17 July 2025 and deregistered 29 July 2025; it still ranks 11th on Washington County's employer list |
| Arconic | Delisted 18 August 2023 and deregistered 28 August 2023 |
| ATI | Its SEC filings now give a Dallas address |
| Eos Energy Enterprises | The SEC's company record shows Pittsburgh, but its latest 10-K cover gives Edison, New Jersey |
Nonprofit and private employers don't file 10-Ks at all, so UPMC, Highmark Health, Giant Eagle and Westinghouse Electric, which all rank high on the state's county employer lists, can't appear in a revenue ranking. Fortune's lists also rank by revenue but use their own definitions and timing; use Fortune's site for its ranks and this table for figures you can trace to a filing.
Changes to watch
- Alcoa announced on 30 June 2026 that it is acquiring AliGroup in a proposed transaction with South32. On its October 2026 earnings call, Alcoa said South32's shareholders had approved the deal and it expected to close in the first half of 2027.
- Dick's Sporting Goods has absorbed Foot Locker, which added 45,400 employees.
- Kraft Heinz reorganized into three reportable segments (North America, Europe and Pacific Developed Markets, and Emerging Markets) in the third quarter of 2026, according to an 8-K filed on 7 October 2026.
Acquisitions and reorganizations reset budgets and vendor lists, so they're the best moments to approach a large company with something new.
Selling to Pittsburgh's headquarters
Before you reach out to any of these companies, read four parts of the 10-K: the segments (each usually has its own budget), the properties list (where the plants are), Item 1A risk factors (what worries the board) and Item 1C (how cybersecurity is governed). Then check the state's county employer lists to see which sites are big locally.
Illustrative example. The seller and its figures are fictional; the company figures are from the table.
Monongahela Analytics (monanalytics.example) sells vibration-monitoring sensors and software that predict equipment failures in plants.
- From the 11 industrial manufacturers, it drops Matthews, L.B. Foster and Ampco-Pittsburgh to focus on eight with $61.4 billion in revenue.
- It assumes each runs at least 20 plants worldwide with 300 critical machines, a pool of 48,000 monitored assets.
- At $400 per asset per year, a 2% share of that pool is worth $384,000 a year.
- It starts with reliability and maintenance leaders at the companies' Pennsylvania plants, where a site visit is a short drive, then uses a working pilot to reach corporate operations.
Bebop can find the reliability and plant leaders at each of the eight and draft outreach that references each company's own segments and plants.
Subject: Fewer surprise outages at [plant name] Hi [first name], [Company]'s 10-K lists [plant name] among its [segment] facilities. Unplanned downtime on a few critical machines is usually what drives the overtime and expedite costs that show up in segment margins. We monitor rotating equipment at 15 plants within 50 miles of Pittsburgh and flag failures two to six weeks out. Could we fit sensors to five of your critical assets for a 60-day trial? [Your name], Monongahela Analytics

Questions people ask

By revenue, Kraft Heinz is the largest company headquartered in Pittsburgh: $24.94 billion for the year ended 27 December 2025, according to its 10-K. Wesco International is second ($23.51 billion) and PNC Financial Services third ($23.10 billion in total revenue). By headcount, PNC is the largest, with 55,333 employees at the end of 2025, and Dick's Sporting Goods employs about 105,200 counting part-time staff.
How many Fortune 500 companies are in Pittsburgh?
Fortune ranks companies by revenue with its own definitions and fiscal-year timing, so check its site for the current count and ranks. Ranked by revenue in their own 10-Ks, ten Pittsburgh-area headquarters reported more than $8 billion each: Kraft Heinz, Wesco, PNC, Dick's, PPG, Viatris, Alcoa, Wabtec, EQT and Howmet Aerospace. Large nonprofits and private firms such as UPMC and Giant Eagle aren't eligible for revenue rankings built from filings.
Is Kraft Heinz headquartered in Pittsburgh or Chicago?
Kraft Heinz's latest 10-K names Pittsburgh as its principal executive office, so rankings built from SEC filings count it as a Pittsburgh company. The company also has major offices in Chicago, which is why some lists show it there. Of its about 35,000 employees, about 16,000 work in the United States.
Why isn't US Steel on the list of Pittsburgh's largest companies?
United States Steel's shares were delisted on 18 June 2025 and the company deregistered with the SEC on 30 June 2025 after its acquisition, so it no longer publishes annual reports with revenue. It is still a major local employer: Pennsylvania ranks it 18th on its Top 50 Employers list for Allegheny County for the 1st quarter of 2026.
Which Pittsburgh companies have the most employees?
From their latest 10-Ks, Dick's Sporting Goods reports about 31,600 full-time and 73,600 part-time employees, PNC 55,333, Coherent about 51,000, American Eagle about 45,000 and PPG about 43,500. These are worldwide totals. For local employment, Pennsylvania's Top 50 Employers lists rank UPMC, the University of Pittsburgh and PNC Bank near the top in Allegheny County.
