Short answer
The largest public companies headquartered in Fort Worth and the rest of Tarrant County, by revenue in their latest 10-Ks, are American Airlines Group ($54.63 billion in 2025), D.R. Horton of Arlington ($34.25 billion, year to September 2025), TPG ($4.67 billion), FirstCash ($3.66 billion) and GameStop of Grapevine ($3.63 billion). The county's biggest employers are American Airlines (35,000), Lockheed Martin Aeronautics (17,500) and DFW Airport (14,000). Tarrant County had 47,656 business establishments in 2023.
- American Airlines and D.R. Horton reported $88.88 billion, more than three times the other 18 Tarrant County public headquarters combined ($28.14 billion).
- Eleven of the 20 public headquarters are in Fort Worth itself, four in Grapevine, two in Arlington and one each in Southlake, Bedford and Benbrook.
- Tarrant County's ten largest employers include Lockheed Martin Aeronautics (17,500) and Naval Air Station Fort Worth (10,500); aerospace parts plants pay an average $134,076.
- Only 64 of the county's 47,656 establishments have 1,000 or more employees, and 82.7% have fewer than 20.
- In Texas, companies register with the Secretary of State, but sole proprietors file their assumed names with the Tarrant County Clerk.

This page is for anyone sizing up Fort Worth companies: job seekers, suppliers, partners, researchers and B2B sellers. We use Tarrant County as Fort Worth's footprint, because most published figures are county-level and the city shares the county with Arlington, Grapevine, Southlake and a dozen smaller suburbs. Dallas County, on the other side of the metro, has its own page: companies in Dallas.

| 20 | Tandy Leather Factory | Benbrook | Leather and leathercraft retail | $76.3 million | Dec 2025 |
Revenue is total revenue as each company reports it. D.R. Horton owned 62% of Forestar at September 2025, so Forestar's revenue is also counted inside D.R. Horton's. Three of the 20 are in transition: Distribution Solutions Group has agreed to be taken private at $35 a share by entities affiliated with LKCM Headwater (proxy statement, October 2026); Sanara MedTech agreed in July 2026 to be acquired by MiMedx; and the NYSE removed Solo Brands' Class A shares in July 2026, so they now trade over the counter.
Left off, and why
SEC company records place some other companies in the county that don't belong in the table. Alcon's EDGAR business address is 6201 South Freeway, Fort Worth, but its annual report (a Form 20-F, as a foreign private issuer) gives its principal executive office as Fribourg, Switzerland. Charles Schwab ($23.92 billion in 2025) and Goosehead Insurance ($365.3 million) are in Westlake, whose ZIP code, 76262, the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-county file splits between Tarrant and Denton counties; we list them here rather than rank them. Texas Instruments and the Israeli company Nova appear in some automated matches but are based in Dallas and Rehovot. A handful of over-the-counter microcaps are also left off.
Tarrant County's ten largest employers
Tarrant County's 2025 annual financial report ranks the county's principal employers, from employers' own figures and the North Central Texas Council of Governments:
| Rank | Employer | Employees, 2025 | Share of county jobs | Employees, 2016 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | American Airlines Group | 35,000 | 3.19% | 25,000 |
| 2 | Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company | 17,500 | 1.60% | 13,690 |
| 3 | Dallas Fort Worth International Airport | 14,000 | 1.28% | not ranked |
| 4 | Texas Health Resources | 12,556 | 1.15% | 12,000 |
| 5 | Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base | 10,500 | 0.96% | 10,000 |
| 6 | Fort Worth Independent School District | 9,860 | 0.90% | 12,000 |
| 7 | Cook Children's Health Network | 9,000 | 0.82% | 6,042 |
| 8 | Wal-Mart Stores Texas | 8,742 | 0.80% | not ranked |
| 9 | Arlington Independent School District | 8,613 | 0.79% | 8,500 |
| 10 | Amazon.com Services | 8,150 | 0.74% | not ranked |
Only one of the ten, American Airlines, is a public company headquartered in the county. The rest are units of companies based elsewhere, nonprofit health systems or public bodies, and the public ones (the airport, the naval air station and two school districts) buy through public procurement rather than a corporate purchasing team. Amazon, Walmart and DFW Airport replaced the University of Texas at Arlington, JPS Health Network and the City of Fort Worth in the top ten since 2016.
How many businesses are in Tarrant County
The Census Bureau's County Business Patterns (CBP) counts business locations with paid employees. For Tarrant County in 2023:
| Measure | Tarrant County, 2023 |
|---|---|
| Establishments | 47,656 |
| Employees | 882,289 |
| Annual payroll | $55,720,111,000 |
| Average employees per establishment | 18.5 |
| Average annual pay | $63,154 |
| Share of US establishments | 0.57% (of 8,361,342) |
| Employees at the establishment | Establishments |
|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | 24,819 |
| 5 to 9 | 8,234 |
| 10 to 19 | 6,358 |
| 20 to 49 | 5,098 |
| 50 to 99 | 1,793 |
| 100 to 249 | 947 |
| 250 to 499 | 262 |
| 500 to 999 | 81 |
| 1,000 or more | 64 |
In bands: 39,411 establishments have 1 to 19 employees, 6,891 have 20 to 99 and 1,354 have 100 or more. CBP counts locations, not companies (a bank with 30 branches counts 30 times), uses NAICS industry codes, and leaves out self-employed people, government and military employers, so Fort Worth ISD and the naval air station aren't in these figures.
What Tarrant County businesses do
| Sector (NAICS) | Establishments | Employees | Average pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retail trade (44 to 45) | 6,370 | 108,314 | $38,610 |
| Health care and social assistance (62) | 6,221 | 121,941 | $63,325 |
| Professional, scientific and technical services (54) | 5,447 | 51,370 | $90,918 |
| Accommodation and food services (72) | 4,849 | 108,462 | $24,192 |
| Construction (23) | 3,940 | 58,225 | $77,351 |
| Finance and insurance (52) | 3,079 | 50,667 | $94,629 |
| Wholesale trade (42) | 2,234 | 51,567 | $92,151 |
| Transportation and warehousing (48 to 49) | 1,886 | 64,052 | $63,781 |
| Manufacturing (31 to 33) | 1,604 | 90,685 | $84,784 |
Average pay is our calculation from CBP payroll. Manufacturing has 3.4% of establishments but 10.3% of jobs, and most of its weight is in aircraft: aerospace product and parts plants (NAICS 3364) number just 37 but employ 22,343 people at average pay of $134,076, a figure the Census Bureau flags as moderately affected by the noise it adds for confidentiality. Transportation and warehousing has 11 of the county's 64 sites with 1,000 or more staff, as does health care. For individual industries, see construction companies in Fort Worth and oil and gas companies in Fort Worth.
How to check a Fort Worth business
| Source | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Texas Comptroller franchise tax account status | Free: whether a corporation or LLC is in good standing for franchise tax, and its registered agent and officers |
| SOSDirect, Texas Secretary of State | Formation documents and filings for Texas entities (a small fee per search) |
| Tarrant County Clerk, assumed names | DBA certificates for sole proprietors and partnerships; since 1 September 2019, corporations and LLCs file assumed names with the Secretary of State instead |
| Fort Worth Chamber business directory | Member businesses by category |
| City of Fort Worth open data | Datasets the city publishes, searchable by topic |
| SEC EDGAR, Texas 10-K filers | Annual reports for the public companies above |
The assumed-name split matters for small firms: a sole-proprietor plumber trading as "Westside Plumbing" shows up at the county clerk, not in the state's entity records.
Prospecting Tarrant County's aerospace suppliers
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics sits at the top of a supply chain of machine shops, coaters and parts makers. CBP shows 322 fabricated metal product establishments in the county (12,361 employees) alongside the 37 aerospace plants.
Illustrative example. The company, prices and results are fictional, to show the method.
Trinity Gauge (trinitygauge.example) sells quality-inspection software that helps suppliers meet aerospace customers' documentation rules.
- Fabricated metal establishments with 20 to 249 employees: 61 + 38 + 19 = 118.
- Aerospace product and parts establishments with 20 to 249 employees: 9 + 5 + 5 = 19.
- Of those 137, it assumes about 40% do aerospace work: roughly 55 prospects.
- At $30,000 a year and a 15% win rate, that's about eight customers and $240,000 of annual revenue.
It leads with the quality manager, brings in the plant manager or owner for the decision, and times outreach to customer audits and new contract awards. Sorting which shops actually serve aerospace primes, and who runs quality at each, is the slow part; Bebop researches that for each account.
Subject: Your next first-article inspection Hi [first name], Shops supplying Fort Worth's aircraft programs tell us first-article inspection reports eat two or three days of a quality engineer's week. Trinity Gauge builds those reports straight from your inspection data and keeps them audit-ready. Would a 20-minute look at one of your recent part numbers be useful? [Your name], Trinity Gauge
